Erika & Roy {Romantic Desert Wedding | Kansas City Destination Wedding Photography}
One of the most exciting things about starting a new life in Kansas City almost four years ago was meeting new friends to share our crazy journey with. It was pretty easy fall totally in love with Roy & Erika from the very beginning of our friendship. We got to watch them as their relationship moved from long distance, to right down the street, to Roy's completely out of the blue and absolutely perfect proposal, all the way through to their wedding day. It was such an honor to be their photographer and their friend on this gorgeous day. Erika and Roy's day took place at Sassi, the best Italian Restaurant in Scottsdale, Arizona. The restaurant feels like it was picked straight out of a Tuscan dream and plopped into the middle of the desert. Despite rain the weeks leading up to the wedding, the actual day was clear and bright. Erika's gold and blush details perfectly complimented the softness of the desert light and the richness of Sassi's architecture. Enjoy!From Erika:Favorite Moment of the Day: Our first look was such a special moment for the both of us. After a chaotic week (spending time with family and last minute wedding preps) it seemed like the stress had finally lifted off our shoulders once we saw each other. If you're on the fence about having a first look, definitely have one. It's probably the only time the two of you will have alone on your wedding day.Inspiration for the wedding: The Sonoran Desert. Erika grew up in Scottsdale, Arizona and thought it would be the perfect place to have a January wedding. You can't beat 70* and sunny clear skies in the winter! The colors and flowers fell into place, fitting seamlessly with the golden hues of the desert.Advice to brides planning in the future: Don't sweat the small stuff. You're going to hear it time and time again from married women asking about how your wedding planning is going: the colors, the dress, the bridesmaids dresses, shoes, food, venue, what band, ect. I overthought every aspect of the wedding. At one point I changed my mind on the bridesmaids dresses five times in a week and went back to the first choice a month later. Stick with your gut and move on to the next decision. No matter what, your big day will be beautiful- the meaning of the day and the people surrounding you with love are what you remember in the end, not the party favors or cake flavors.A huge Thank You to my amazing second photographer for the day, Tara Lauducci.
